Al-Burini was an Arab historian, religious legal scholar and a poet. He was educated in Damascus and Jerusalem where he served as a judge. In 1580, he assumed the chair of Shafi'I jurisprudence at the Umayyad mosque in Damascus. He travelled to Aleppo and Tripoli and wrote two works about his travels. His most three significant works are Tarajim al-'Ayan , Al-Rawdah al_Bahia and the commentary on the poems of Ibn al-Farid.
